NASA World Wind is an amazing software that allows you to zoom from high satellite altitude into any location on planet Earth. Therefore, if you wish to see earth terrain in rich 3D then you must install this software on your machine. You will feel as if you are present there. It is very easy to download and use the software. For reducing the size of initial download, Blue Marble imagery is eliminated from the installer. The imagery will download as you start using NASA World Wind.
There are a number of ways by which, it is possible to narrow down the search and to make it easy for you to locate the exact position of a particular place, that you are searching. Moreover, World Wind will be soon adding Meta data information of certain places like amusement parks, beaches, populated places, mountains and many more. In addition, attributes like population, elevation, and other will also be added.
The team of NASA World Wind is already working on place names shown at World Wind and soon they will be made available. It is possible that sometimes the place names may cause nuisance. The makers of NASA World Wind are aware of this nuisance when several place names come on the screen. They are taking steps to resolve this issue.
If you visit layer manager, you can click under certain location names. By doing this, you can remove these place names from the screen. It will be helpful to you if you remove the US anthropogenic feature. This feature provides information about churches, schools and other landmarks in United States.
The software application uses 50 to 100% Central processing unit (CPU) of your computer when it is running. The developers of World Wind software have not coded it for performance. However, this problem is common and people using this software experience it. Developers of this software are well aware of this issue and will optimize it in future releases. At present, the research for optimizing it is on. However, there may be some bugs that may be responsible for causing high CPU usage.
It has also been found that World Wind takes a bit more time when it is shutting down or starting up. If NASA World Wind is taking lot of minutes to close or load then check the World.xml file. The file is located in appdata\NASA\ World. If the file is larger than the allotted Kb’s then it is likely that you have disabled ' Use default layer states'. In this case disabled means that it is set to false. Using this option, you can make World Wind remember the layer states when it is again restarted.
It is possible that your machine will crash when you try to run the program. The problem is not with the satellite program but with your machine. Most likely, it is the hardware/driver problem. Check whether your computer is stable with 3D graphics by running DirectX benchmarking software.
