NASA’s amazing LandSat 7 and other features

The LandSat images are frequently updated by NASA World Wind. Therefore, as the new images are available you would be able to see them.

The resolution of LandSat images is so high that you can also see your own hours and neighborhood on NASA World Wind. You can even identify the things like trees car, etc around your house and neighborhood. Thus in a way the LandSat images have put the entire world in a context of scientifically accurate data.

As the LandSat 7, data set is available for several regions around the world .therefore it is too large and therefore it would not fit on a single computer. So when you are viewing it through NASA World Wind, NASA World Wind will download only the frame that you view on your screen. Then when you click on some other point then imagery for that point will be downloaded.

SRTM

With the combination of the LandSat 7 imagery and SRTM you NASA World Wind provides you a dramatic view of the entire earth. SRTM is an abbreviation for the Shuttle Radar Topography Mission data set.

This data set provides the elevation data for the different regions of the world. NASA World Wind combines this data with the LandSat data to create a three dimensional imagery. Moreover, as this imagery is fully interactive you will be able to browse through it. While browsing you will feel as if you are flying over these places.

NASA SVS

These are the animations produced by Goddard Space Flight Center. These are interesting animations, which show the different climatic occurrences like cyclones storms, etc. They have been perfectly created and they will give you a feel as if you are viewing a real cyclone, etc.

Another interesting aspect of the NASA SVS is the hat NASA World Wind can play them directly the exact point on the map, which shows the place where they actually are taking place.

MODIS

Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer i.e. MODIS is a feature, which provides you the useful data of events and occurrences around the world. The data provided by this feature is time relevant. NASA World Wind updates it every day and therefore you can know the current events taking place around you or around the world.

The events that this feature covers are floods, smoke, fire, dust, storms and also volcanic activities. NASA World Wind creates customized icons of these events and then displays them directly on the place where they have occurred. These icons are easy to understand as they have symbols depicting these events. Moreover, they are also color-coded.

Moreover, when you click on these icons you can get the future details or images of these events. NASA World Wind downloads publication quality material related to those events. The resolution of this material may be as high as 250 Mozilla per pixel. Further, you can view a fresh set of data or images every day. You can also tour through these images with the “tour mode”.

I highly recommend the Google Software Pack. It comes with a lot of great software that is all FREE. You can also pick and choose which of the software products you want to download. You don't have to download them all. If you have a Mac or you don't want the Google Software Pack for some reason you can download it directly from the main site.
