NASA Learning Technologies
NASA Learning Technology project is intending to promote research in the areas of education especially Math and science. It provides funds for such innovation. The Learning Technologies project integrates the educational activities of Educational institutions, commercial industries, non profit organization and NASA enterprises that will help in developing and educating learners with different abilities.
LTP aims to support the technologies that enable the learner in making innovations in math and science areas using NASA data. LTP also aims at developing educational products that will help in different learning environments. LTP has many ambitions to develop innovative educational technologies without placing more burdens to the teachers.
The research and development must be based on the data provided by NASA. Their main aim is to increase math and science education. LTP wants to promote NASA technologies and research and development in learning environment so that learners will engage themselves in such types of research in the near future.
LTP pillars: There are 3 pillars which help to classify educational products. All educational products may demonstrate one or two of these pillars. The first one is Interactive environment which enables to integrate NASA educational, engineering and technologies into some interactive environment that uses 3 D video if possible. The second one is Virtual presence that tends to give high resolution virtual words using 3 D video. The third pillar is Immersive technology environment in which computer platforms are linked o high speed networks.
Earth System science Community is a committee of educators, students and scientists that enables high schools and universities’ students to do research about Earth system based on data and information available from Internet. With Earth system Science Community students and educators can learn to investigate the earth as a system using applicable techniques and tools. Students will also be able to know how to publish their team research in the web.
ESSC found that the students taught with conventional methods like text books and lectures in science related subjects are likely to suffer from some practical difficulties. The class room lectures are not sufficient when they are supposed to communicate with professional community. So ESS is the best approach to study the system of Earth. The global changes, evolution of earth etc are explained practically with earth’s components. ESS aims to make the learners understand the changes in next decade and century and its impact in human activities. ESSC enables students to learn problem solving, model building and in scientific communication.
Learning Technologies’ education resources are saved in documents either Html or PDF. It contains NASA educational technology programs, Websites to educate child scientists, distant learning programs, case studies, NASA explores and so on.
Learning Technology World wind 1.3.2: NASA has launched a free open source application called World wind with the help of Sun Microsystems. The code was written once and can be run anywhere in any platform even with some changes made to original code. This open source technology prompts innovation. You can extend or embed world wind 3 D technologies for education or for research and you can share your project with other users through web.
