NASA World Wind Add-ons
World wind is one of highly preferred 3D earth program after Google Earth, which is developed by NASA. World wind also has a large set of supporting add ons, helping its users to see the world clearly.
Shaded relief add-on: This add-on provides informative and attractive bathymetric/topographic maps that you in combination with World Wind layers. These maps provide high-resolution images in a wide range of color schemes.
Features of this add-on:
Maps: Olive, Ultramarine and Ochre is designed specifically to accentuate subtle elevation changes that generally take place at lower altitudes. Other structural features like drainage basins and river valleys are readily visible.
Turquoise and Emerald is a color scheme that is seen in many atlases. Colors are generally earth tone combination, which often reflect type of terrain.
Aquamarine and Umber is an elevation map similar to an atlas that employs pleasing naturalistic colors. This layer provides greater emphasis on brown portion of color range.
Antique is very similar to weathered maps of the previous centuries. This color scheme that is non traditional in nature evokes style of antique map while at the same time retain color elevation information accurately.
Pastel Spectrum uses rainbow palette for displaying topographic information. It resemble color-coded elevation map that are commonly used. The colors were selected to offer sensitivity to altitude.
Charcoal, a greyscale map is helpful when used effectively in combination with colored layers. This map conveys the altitude, orientation and location data of shaded relief. To install this add-on, a hard drive having a capacity of 3.1GB is required.
Planetary Science Compilation: It contains all planetary data add-ons. Individual add-ons can be freely downloaded from the Web. With these add-ons, you will be able to view Venus, Mercury, Jupiter and its beautiful moons. To use this add-on, you will require 1.2 gigabyte of hard disk space. Sea level deluxe will allow you to explore sea levels ranging from potential future scenarios to distant prehistory. This add-on is an expanded version of sea level standard add-on. Many new features are added in this expanded version including flood zones, higher resolution, at risk cities and more maps.
Features of this add-on:
Maps: It has a wide variety of shaded relief maps that can take almost 3GB of disk space. These maps are developed considering the global bathymetry datasets. These maps provide a maximum resolution of 2km. Elevations ranging from -11000m to approximately 9000mts are displayed.
Contours: It displays contour lines accurately of all sea levels in order to match relief maps. You can combine contours with relief maps or else you can overlay on image layers of NASA World Wind.
Flood Zones: This add-on also provides maps that give information on coastal flood zones accurately for land areas five mts and ten mts above sea level. These masks often facilitate identification of locations and places that are susceptible to flooding, storm surges and tidal effects and that are at a bigger risk of inundation by oceans. In order to install this software application, you will require a 2GB of disk space.
