NASA World Wind features
NASA World Wind has a number of useful features. Some of these features are unique ones which you do not get with the other similar products. For example, the data sets having imagery for other planets in our solar system. Some of the several features of NASA World Wind have been discussed below.
3D Engine
NASA World Wind has a 3D Engine with the help of which it provides you the 3D images of different places on earth. When you start NASA World Wind you see the 3D image of earth. Even when you zoom in on any particular location you also get the further detailed 3D imagery of that location. Due to the 3D nature and good quality of images, while viewing the images you will feel as if you are practically present at those at place and viewing it with your own eyes.
As NASA World Wind was designed for the general people; using it as well as the 3D Engine is very simple. All you would need while viewing 3D imagery or any other feature, you just need to use is the mouse. Nevertheless, if you are more comfortable with the keyboard, you can also control NASA World Wind with the keyboard as well.
Please note that, if you want to use this feature, you should have a computer having a recent configuration, which matches the minimum requirements to run NASA World Wind. Moreover it should also have a 3D acceleration as well. Therefore, you should first check the requirements and equip your pc with them.
Blue Marble
The Blue Marble is a set of images taken from “Blue Marble” which is an Earth Observatory of NASA. The specialty of these images is that the images are true colored images and they cover the entire earth.
NASA World Wind combines the data and imagery obtained form the different sources like, MODIS, Terra, and Blue Marble and because of this, it provides you true colored imagery for entire earth at a resolution as high as 1 km per pixel.
LandSat 7
LandSat 7 is a data set of high resolution images of the entire earth. These images have been taken from the LandSat satellite. Thus while viewing true colored Blue Marble imagery of earth with NASA World Wind, when you zoom in at a particular location it is this data set that provides you the further details.
The LandSat imagery was shot between the years 1999 to 2003. it has an impressive resolution of about 15 meters per pixel. Moreover it also features ht other color bands. For example, the infrared spectrum. In addition to all this, NASA World Wind keeps on updating the imagery as and when it will be appear. The changes and updates automatically.
The LandSat 7 dataset images are very interesting. They have such high resolution that you can even identify your own house, the structures, trees, etc around it, etc. Thus we can say that NASA World Wind has put the whole world in a context and that too along with scientifically accurate data.
