NASA SVS

NASA SVS is a set of intense animations of different events like hurricane, cloud movements, seasonal changes on earth, etc. these are developed by Goddard Space Flight Center. This form an important feature of NASA World Wind because it can displays them directly on the virtual globe that you see while using NASA World Wind. This proves to be very useful because you view the animations directly the area where the event is taking place. Therefore you can study the different characteristics like the areas affected, the direction in which they are moving, etc.

MODIS

MODIS stands for moderate resolution imaging spectroradiometer, which produces a set of data of current happenings in the world. The events like fires, floods dust, smoke storms, volcanic activities etc are some of the ones produced by it.

While displaying them on your screen NASA World Wind display those in the form of icons placed directly at the location where they are taking place. The icons are specific and easy to understand. Moreover, when you click on these icons NASA World Wind downloads and displays the full and real images or photographs of the event. You can also download and view publication quality material that can have a resolution of about 250 meter per pixel.

NASA World Wind provides updated images everyday and therefore the next day you can again download new set of images. NASA World Wind also features a “tour mode” in which you can skim through, a number of samples, automatically.

GLOBE

Globe is a set of data showing whether conditions on all parts of earth. NASA World Wind is able to browse through and display GLOBE data directly on the virtual globe. Moreover, NASA World Wind can provide data for any time, which you may desire. Therefore, you can also know about the whether conditions for some previous day as well.

The whether conditions that you view are, rainfall, cloud cover, barometric pressure, and temperature. Moreover, you can even view the student GLOBE samples themselves. NASA World Wind provides all these whether conditions along with an appropriate scale.

Country and State Borders (USA)

While viewing earth at a lesser zoom level these borders are not clearly visible. However, when you zoom in at a particular region NASA World Wind with display clear and correct country borders. These borders are available for almost all countries of the world. In the same way if you zoom in on the United States you will also see the state borders in as well.

You can also see these borders on the different type of views like terrain views as well. By viewing borders in combination with such views, you can study the geographical features responsible for formation for country and state borders.

Place names

NASA World Wind has a very vast catalog of names countries, counties, capitals, cities, towns, etc. Moreover, for some places it also has historical references as well. While you are viewing the earth at a lesser zoom level, the screen covers as greater area of earth. Therefore, at such a time NASA World Wind displays only some prominent names like that of countries, major metro areas, etc.

However when you zoom in at a particular region you will get the names of other small and insignificant places as well. In this way, there is never any over crowding of names on the screen.
