The World Wind is a product from the NASA and it consists of the images of the earth. These images are interactive ones, and they can be browsed through with the help of the simple controls. The images that it shows also have many useful features as the roads and important locations of the different places in the viewable area on the screen.

The only thing, that is to be done for making use this product, is download it from the website of the NASA World Wind. This download is free of charge, and therefore anybody having the internet connection is free to use it. However, there are some requirements that the computer system must have in order to download it. The computer system must have the Windows 2000 or XP edition, Intel Pentium 3.1 or more than that, or AMD Athlon or more advanced than that, a ram of 256 MB and a 3D graphics card. Once you download it, save it in the directory of the computer. When done this, you can use it.

It has many different features. These include the 3D Engine, Blue Marble, Land Sat 7, SRTM, Animated Earth, MODIS, GLOBE, Country and State Borders, Place Names, Visual Tools and the Landmark Set. Making the right use of all these, you will be able to get all the information and the views or the images, which you wish.

For browsing through the images of the NASA World Wind, you can use the buttons on the screen, or you can also make use of the mouse and the keyboard.

For moving around on the globe, you should hold with click of the mouse and then drag it to the desired place. Alternatively, you can also go to any place directly by just taking the pointer to that point, and clicking the left button of the mouse. For rotating the globe use the right click of the mouse, and then drag to the desired part of the globe.

In addition to the mouse you can use the W, A, S, D buttons, from the keyboard. For zooming in and out of the globe just scroll using the mouse, or if your mouse does not have the scroll key, press the left and the right key of the mouse at he same time and then, drag it up or down for zooming in or out, accordingly.

These are the simple tools, which are enough for using the NASA World Wind. The menu and the other features can be accessed easily.

The advantages of using the NASA World Wind are that, you will get the maps and other related information, just on the computer with an internet connection. In addition to this, you can also get the virtual images of the places and these really resemble the actual place. Therefore, you can get to see the place, without actually going there.

These images and the data available through it can be copied and stored on the computer. There are some other similar products too in the market; however, the NASA World Wind has much more features than they do.

I highly recommend the Google Software Pack. It comes with a lot of great software that is all FREE. You can also pick and choose which of the software products you want to download. You don't have to download them all. If you have a Mac or you don't want the Google Software Pack for some reason you can download it directly from the main site.
