NASA World Wind’s awesome Features
The Landsat 7 images also feature other color bands like infrared spectrum. Users are able to browse through the different data sets when they will become available. You do not need to worry about the further changes or updates. They will be automatically inherited by World Wind.
The LandSat 7 images are high enough to show your own city, neighborhood, or landmarks in your vicinity. This has put the whole world in context with scientifically accurate data.
The LandSat data set is enormous in size and so it would not fit on your computer. Therefore at a time NASA World Wind downloads only what you see on your screen. It stores it in the form of a compressed copy on your computer. This you can view any time later.
SRTM: NASA World Wind combines the LandSat 7 imagery with Shuttle Radar Topography Mission i.e. SRTM data. This enables it to provide you a dramatic view of Earth at an eye level. Therefore, you would experience as if you are literally flying over the world in any direction you want. NASA World Wind can further enlarge these views so that you can view details.
NASA SVS: GSFC i.e. Goddard Space Flight Center has produced a set of visually intense animations which demonstrate a number of subjects like hurricane dynamics as well as seasonal changes throughout the world.
An interesting thing about this feature is that World Wind can taken and play these animations right on the virtual globe, at their exact position. Therefore understanding where they are occurring as you see the automatically rotating view of the world.
MODIS: MODIS stands for Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectro radiometer. It produces a set of time relevant data, which is updated every day. MODIS catalogs, floods, smoke, fires, dust, storms, and volcanic activity are the events covered by this feature.
World Wind uses this data and produces a easily customizable view of this information. It marks it directly on the appropriate position on the globe. When you click on this color coded markers, the full images and data is downloaded and displayed on the screen. MODIS images can download publication quality material, of resolution of up to 250 meters per pixel. Moreover, you can download a fresh set of images every day.
GLOBE: World Wind is able to browse through and display GLOBE data for any time you want. For example, you can download the same days temperature (or for any day) across the world. Moreover the other climatic features like barometric pressure, rainfall, cloud cover, etc also are covered under this feature. In addition to all this, you can also view the student GLOBE samples as well. Each student sample has a temperature scale for reference.
Country and state borders (for United States): World Wind features complete set state boarders for United States and country borders for other parts of the world. Thus, you can trace most countries with NASA World Wind. The borders are not so clear initially however they become more and more precise as you zoom in.
