What to do if the placenames are causing nuisance?
NASA World Wind is aware of the nuisance, which the several placenames on the screen cause. It is trying to resolve this problem. It just wishes that the placenames stayed, however, without taking up a lot of real estate on the screen.
Note, if you visit the layer manager (you can see the layer manager if you click view button). You can click off under certain placenames so that they will be removed from the screen. You may also find it helpful, if you remove the one named US Anthropogenic Features. This contains information about schools, churches and other landmarks in the United States.
Why does the application use 50 to 100 % CPU of my computer, most time it is running? The developers of NASA World Wind have not coded for performance. Nevertheless, you can be assured that this problem is quite common and every use experiences it. Therefore, there is nothing wrong with your computer. NASA World Wind is aware of the problem and it is going to optimize it in the future releases. Currently the research and development for doing this is on. However, note that there are some bugs, which can cause high CPU usage.
Why does world wind take a lot of time while start up or shutdown?
If you experience the problem that world wind is taking some minutes for loading or closing check your World.xml file. it is located in %appdata%\NASA\World Wind\. If it is larger that a number of KB, you must have disabled the UseDefaultLayerStates. Note: disabled means set to False. This option is useful as it makes NASA World Wind remember all of the layer states when you restart.
Note: it makes it remember every item along with all layers. For example, try expanding all of the branches of boundaries layer. On doing so, you will find number of *.wwb entries. very entry is allowed to enter in World.xml.
You cannot clear the cached entries by turning this setting on or off. For doing so just delete the World.xml. WorldWind.log is able to grow into a monster as well. Therefore, it is important to delete it as well. The next time when you start World Wind it will recreate that file with default settings. Alter the program settings as you want them to be, however do not try turning off any layers. You can change options, plugins, autoload, etc.
