Is NASA World Wind really free?
FSF does not have any trademark for the word free and free software. If the FSF want to license to be changed, they can approach the NOSA team.
None of the members among the developing team has complained that NOSA tries to limit their freedom.
What made NASA World Wind decide on C# and Direct X?
As NASA World Wind is an open source program; it encourages any OSX or GNU/ Linux programmers to start. On its part, it will attempt to its best, to provide all the resources it can for such effort. At this moment, there are some community resources at the porting World Wind.
Which are the areas where you need the greatest help? Is there any way through which, I can contribute?
Yes, there are different whys by which you can contribute in the World Wind project. Moreover, World Wind also provides the facility to get into contact with the other contributors as well. You can contribute in the following sections.
If you want to work with the source code, you can contribute towards developing World Wind. You can also create add-ons.
Working with words
You can contribute to the wiki of NASA World Wind. There are some sections, which do require contributions from the users. They are ‘Document’, ‘Glossary’, and ‘World Wind Walk through Tutorial’. You can check the Wiki: To do list for this purpose.
If you know any other language than English, you can play a very important role by ‘Translating the installer’. For doing so you can check the ‘Documentation and Collaboration’, section.
Working With People
If you are a person involved in dealing with other people play an important part by participating, reading, responding in the ‘Forums’ and ‘Chat’.
Other Work
You can take up the Jira issues, which are marked ‘Resolved’. You can check whether they are fixed correctly and then you can close them (add a comment about the fix, how you tested whether they are fixed correctly or not.)
Make donation
This also, is one of the most useful ways of contributing towards NASA World Wind project. As you know, it is a free program and it depends completely upon funds. It does receive funds from the government, which are quite enough. However, with more funds, World Wind will be able to grow more and thus it will be able to provide much better service to its users. Moreover, the features like World Wind community and World Wind central do not receive funds from the government and therefore to keep it alive your donations are really going to be useful.
Donating for World Wind is very simple. Just go to the donations page and there click on the link for making a donation. Alternatively, you can also click on the PayPal Donate” button. Both these buttons are at the bottom of NASA World Wind home page.
There are no limitations on your donations; you can donate any amount, which you wish.
