Some coolest features of NASA world wind
SRTM: This is the feature that combines the LandSat 7, the images and data taken from Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM) Data, it provides you a fully interactive and dramatic tour of earth and that too at the eye level. With this feature, you would be able to fly across the earth. You can fly in any direction you want. Moreover, if you get interested in any location you can also zoom in on that location and view the further details of that place.
NASA SVS: NASA World Wind SVS is a set of animations produced by the Goddard Space Flight Center i.e. the GSFC. Animations for demonstrating several subjects are available in this data set. For example; hurricane.
The advantage of this feature is that you view these animations directly on the maps and at the location at which these events are taking place. NASA World Wind displays all these animations on the virtual globe. Therefore, when you are browsing through the globe you can easily know where these events are taking place at that moment.
MODIS: MODIS is an abbreviation for the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer. This Spectroradiometer produces monitors the different events like Fires, floods, storms, volcanic activity and smoke. It provides us with time relevant data every day i.e. you get updated data every day.
NASA World Wind takes this information and displays it in the form of icons. These icons are very easy to understand. Moreover, they are color-coded and so you do not even need to enlarge them to identify which event they are showing.
If you want to view the further details and photos of that event, you can just click on these icons. This will download the further data and full sized images. Through MODIS, you can download the publication quality images, text, and that too at a resolution of about 250 m per pixel. Moreover, NASA World Wind provides you new set of data and images every day. You can also use the tour mode with which you can skim through the available samples.
GLOBE: With NASA World Wind you can browse and view the GLOBE data for any time you want. The GLOBE data is actually a data set featuring the weather data of the entire earth. The weather factors whose data you can get are rainfall, cloud cover, barometric pressure. Moreover, it also provides you the GLOBE samples produced by students. Each of the samples that you get through this feature will have a temperature scale.
Country and State border (for USA): The maps that world wind provides you also feature the international borders. Therefore, you can identify the different countries. The state borders are available for United States. You can view the borders with any type of view. Therefore, you can view the borders on the maps that show the geographical and topographical features. This is very useful in understanding where these features have played a role in the formation of international and state borders.
