Some interesting plug-ins of NASA World Wind
Big screen shot plug-in: This plug-in is related to the panorama style. In this panoramic approach, you can take high-resolution imagery. The resolution of this imagery is equivalent of taking pictures with a mega pixel camera that to digital. So your need of using a digital camera is broken and also you can view any image in such form in your home too.
Installation of this Add-on: To install this Add-on first download the big screen shot version 0.3. Then you can replicate the contents to your World Wind \Plug-ins directory. Note that this should be done before the loading of World Wind.
How to use this Plug-in: If you want to use this plug-in load unload World Wind you have to click on the Load /Unload Window after opening the Plug-ins menu. After you have finished it then click on the ‘Big screenshot’ in the plug-in load and unload Window. When you have done this then press, the loads button after that the indicator, which is present next to the option ‘Big screen shot’, it should turn green this indicates that now you can close the Plug-in Load/Unload Window.
Then you will see the two entries which appear in the Plug-ins menu which say ‘Big screenshot 2x’ and the second one is the ‘Big screenshot 3x’ respectively.
Notes: When you choose the second option which is the 3x factor you will get the default size. When you will choose the default size, it is equivalent of taking pictures with a five-mega five-pixel digital camera. A full screen size is about the dimensions of 1024x768 approximately. This will obviously produce more than seven Mega pixels.
The magnifier which is present as 2x may be inadequate with respect to the video card capabilities. So that you will need to scale the image down this will result in a good image.
Note that the 3x magnifier can handle only the ground terrain so no stars, atmosphere, sky, borders or place names. One more important point, which you should note that the three times magnification, would freeze World Wind for several seconds. So do not panic and think that something is wrong with the system. This is obvious when you apply the settings of 3 xs.
To be able to view the panoramic view you have to merely minimize the World Wind Window which is accessible. Note that this minimization should be done in a vertically way. This will allow you to get wide-angle imagery in a rectangular way. Don’t worry you will get horizontal field of view automatically.
Compass Rose Plug-in: The main objective of the compass rose plug-in while renders a compass in World Wind. Therefore, you can easily get the directions of any place you want.
Installation: To install this plug-in you can download and then remove the file in the World Wind directory.
Utilization: If you want to utilize the plug-in then first load it in World Wind. After that you can open the Plug-ins menu and then you can click load/Unload option which is present their. Then click on the option ‘Compass rose’, which is present in the load, unload window. When you go to this window then you click on the load button. The indicator which is present next to Compass rose option will turn green.
This is the indication that now you can safely close the plug-in load unload window. You can also choose the different versions of Compass rose you click on the ‘Compass rose’ option in layer manger. You will have to click on the properties to change the settings. Several other things can also be changed, which will include the screen position and tilt.
