Troubleshooting issues in NASA World
How are tiles named in NASA World Wind application?
The tile naming structure is on the basis of the layer name, level, longitude and latitude. These are the main things for which tile are named. The general structure of naming is based on these factors. If we consider now World Wind version 1.3.3 you can view tile information form within World Wind.
To view tile filenames and outlines in NASA World Wind you can open the layer manager and then right click on any of the bottom level image node which is available their.
Then select properties. In the resulting window modify the provide Tile File names present in property value to true and you will observe the red outline and text for each tile. You should note one point that the text outlines are rendered at a different height to the terrain. If you wish best results, set the vertical Exaggeration to zero level and then make sure that you are viewing the center of the outline.
Imagery related questions and tips: The imagery related questions which are faced day to day by the users are as follows:
When using the zoom in option it is all blurry: If you are looking in United States World Wind version and you cannot see properly then you can refer first the tile which is present in the USGS Urban Area Imagery. This urban area imagery is only about 0.25/pixel.
This pixel resolution covers only certain areas in United States. In this layer you will observe cars too in this layer. This facility is available only for selected cites. So if you are in a right place then the images will be white. You will have to observe the list of the cities, which is available in the website.
In another way you can use the one meter topography which occupies the whole of United States.
Note that it is black and white in color. In this application, you will find most of the buildings and roads, which are present in the cities or the imagery in which you see. In these imageries you can also observe your house too.
Can we use trouble shooting for non United States Locations?
Note that United States Geological Survey has a high-resolution data available. This facility is available only for United States. However, the landsat data is available globally.
The landsat imagery, which is mentioned earlier, has fewer resolutions then the USGS Ortho imagery. If you still want to check the resolution and change it then click the images in Landsat and then compare your results. If the images are different then you can see issues, which are associated with downloading the tiles.
In most of the locations, you can obtain licensed imagery and is not available freely. So you must note this while downloading the imagery form landsat and other imagery.
You can also use world wind Add-on which is known as One Earth Add-on This add-on makes the use of WMS server for providing high resolution imagery. Several countries have their datasets available. Alternatively you can also try using Virtual Earth Plug-in.
