Wonderful features of NASA World Wind
If I want to use World Wind data in other mapping and modeling applications, is there any way to extract data from World Wind to do so?
Whatever data you view through World Wind is saved as a cache in the “Cache” directory. This directory is located in the installation folder itself and the cached data is organized by the dataset.
You can use this cached data for any other mapping and modeling applications you want.
Another way of doing this is through the WMS protocol. This protocol enables you to interface with the same servers that the WW connects.
Are the images that we view through world copyright protected?
Some of the images and data are copyright protected and some are not. This is because the different types of images and data are obtained from different sources. The Landsat Global Mosaic (excluding the i-3 visible layer), USGS raster maps and images and Blue marble images are in the public domain and therefore there are no copyrights for them.
If you want to know about the images and data that are protected through copyright laws, you can take a look at the section for questions regarding using copyright images in World Wind.
Can I use the images and data, provided by World Wind, for commercial purposes?
The images and data that are in the public domain can be used for commercial purposes. As most of the data and images provided by NASA World Wind lie in this category, you can use most of them for commercial purposes. However, you cannot use the data and images, which are not in public domain, for commercial purposes.
Moreover, you cannot use some of the datasets, which also includes the 3party plug-ins or add-ons that are for commercial purposes. These things are not provided by NASA itself. They are provided by third parties and such parties have their own terms-of-use. Some of them may not allow you to use their products for commercial purposes.
Which is the most proportionate vertical exaggeration possible in NASA World Wind?
It appears that 2 or 3 should be the right one, however it is not so. Actually, 1 is the correct vertical exaggeration supported by NASA World Wind.
To be more precise, we can say that 1 means that the vertical height is a product of 1.0. On the other hand the vertical exaggeration of 3 means that the vertical height is a product of 3.
What are the secret keys?
There are some secret keys that NASA World Wind hides from the users and so you cannot know about them. They have been intentionally kept secret. However, if you want to know more about the available options, you can see the keyboard actions section.
Where did the measurement tool go?
It has been replaced by the plainimetric measure tool plug-in.
Can the default Landsat7 Imagery Layer be changed to I3 ESAT?
Yes, you can do this from the preferences. Disable the Use Default Layer States and then you can use your own layer states. You can also try renaming and editing @Images.tmp to @Images.xml.
