World of Jupiter in NASA world wind

In this article the World of Jupiter is considered. Jupiter name it self suggests the massiveness and the giant size of this planet. Jupiter is definitely the king of the solar system. Jupiter is the largest planet in the solar system. The feature of World of Jupiter is that it is viewable form World Wind. Note that it can be viewed in the version 1.3.4 and above.

Introduction to Jupiter: First and the foremost fact we have to consider is that Jupiter is the largest planet of the Solar system. In position, it is the fifth planet of the solar system. The name Jupiter is derived form Roman culture. The meaning of this name is “King or teacher of Gods”. This is the importance of planet Jupiter in Roman culture.

Astronomically if we consider Jupiter it is the most massive planet in the solar system. It weighs two and a half times the total combined mass of all the planets, which are present in the solar system today. If we compare the size of Earth and Jupiter then it is observed that Jupiter is approximately twelve times the size of Earth.

Jupiter is not a solid planet like Mars, Venus, Earth and mercury but it is a Gas Giant. So if you ever visit Jupiter then you will not find any solid place to support your feet on. It is the third brightest Objects as seen from planet Earth.

Composition of Jupiter: Mainly Jupiter planet is composed of Hydrogen small amounts of Helium are also present. The Gravity of Jupiter is tremendous. The Gravity of Jupiter is most powerful when compared to all the planets in the solar system. This tremendous gravity and other factors are responsible for the tremendous pressure prevailing in the planet. Due to this tremendous pressure, the Layers present beneath this Planet are not composed of Gas but they are composed of Liquid hydrogen. So here, due to tremendous pressure Gaseous hydrogen becomes liquefied. One more specialty of Jupiter is that it has a rapid rate of rotation and so it posses a prominent budge in the Equatorial region.

The outer atmosphere is distinctly divided into bands due to rapid rotation. So many storms batter the surface of this planet. These storms mainly take place in the interface or the area between these bands. There is presence of a giant red spot in Jupiter, which is one such storm-taking place at the interface of these bands. This spot is three times greater then Earth. From this you can imagine massiveness of Jupiter. Jupiter also has a ringed system but is a little faint.

Moons of Jupiter: Currently there are about sixty-three moons of Jupiter. The large moons are four. They are popularly called as Galilean moons since they were discovered first by Great scientist Galileo. The moons are Ganymede, Io, Europa, and Callisto. These are the four largest moons of Jupiter. Ganymede is the largest moon of Jupiter it is larger then mercury which is considered as a planet in solar system.

How to view Jupiter: You can view Jupiter by selecting start programs then you can go to NASA World Wind Jupiter version 1.3 and then you can switch to Jupiter.

Jupiter Layers: Layers of Jupiter are present with the Moons it can be toggled as many times and it can be done by clicking the corresponding World Wind toolbars.
