World Wind- great software application
World wind software is created by NASA’s Learning Technologies Center. It is an open source 3D tool and can be viewed by the entire world. It was developed in 2004, and NASA staff and open source community are looking after it. Working with this software gives an experience as if the globe is around you. World wind uses rich 3D tools of satellite images and information to allow the user to experience as if he/she is at that particular place. The user can practically visit any place of the world and can enjoy the beauty of that place where he may have thought it impossible to reach. World Wind display places names all over the world relating to country capitals, villages and small populated regions. NASA Learning Technologies Center is trying to expand, to add different images and lot more information of several subjects useful to users.

World Wind is a success of group of teams, NASA Intelligent System Division, the open Source community and USRA Research Institute for Advance Computer Science (RIACS).The main feature of World Wind is to give importance to education and outreach. NASA World Wind is powered by Microsoft.NET tool used for speedy growth and to simply access standards like XML, WMS and new graphics.3D pictures are motivated by DirectX which give wide base of compatibility with speed up video hardware.
World Wind gives facility to travel through satellite altitude to any place of Earth. As the images are in 3D format the user gets familiar to places easily and feels the desire of taking a search around of the location. World Wind software operating system is easy to operate and thus people of all ages can enjoy. World wind is controlled on two buttons of mouse. Map reading is programmed with one click of mouse as well as the facility to type any location. The world wind software is free to download with Internet Explorer help. It contains .NET runtime and well developed DirectX library, just download the ZIP file and run the setup program. World wind shows a mixture of data from several sources, for example Elevation data provides data of mountains, volcanoes, hills and valleys. Animated Earth gives information of Earth science facts put in motion, how storm moves and fires spread. Even one can make out the country and state borders with relevant information.
World Wind is fully loaded with images of the Blue Marble (Earth). The data of several satellites is available on world wind to view it easily. The Blue Marble’s beauty can be seen by every pixel motion. Future Generation Earth is flowed from the NASA servers by 0.5 km per pixel and in 12 descriptions. Land Sat 7 is a group of images from 1999 to 2003 and at moving 15 m per pixel declaration. Land Sat 7 resolution makes it possible to locate the city, district or familiar sights of surrounding area.
United States Geological Survey data gives countryside maps of United States down to 1:24K scale, 1-Meter detail images of the United States and Urban Area images down to detail of .25 Meters.
