Development of the Servir Viz

Servir Viz is completely interoperable with NASA World Wind. It can be utilized in coordination with the number of add ons and plug ins that are obtainable through world wind support websites. The plug ins and add ons increase the functionality of the application. Another important thing is that they are always developed by the open source community of developers and users.

IAGT has been working on this project for a long time and it has designed a number of state of the art plug ins and add ons for Servir Viz. The IAGT has done this in order to meet the requirements of a specific project. The GEOSS and WMS features are nice examples of helpful and mostly used plug ins for Servir Viz. Where as add ons for Servir Viz mainly include extra datasets. Most of the add ons create a connection to web based data sources. The most important feature of these add ons is that they are automatically modified whenever the user uses or opens the Servir Viz. In the same way, several dynamic, add on data available consist of the current flood, earthquake, fire and weather information for the state.

Servir Viz in Action

The disaster management and ecologically cautious communities in Mesoamerica have appreciated the Servir Viz project. NASA, the World Bank, and USAID have sponsored in future improvement and awareness of Servir Viz by organizing conference presentations as well as training workshops. All the three institutes have also provided funding for state of the art improvements.

The vitality of Servir Viz was demonstrated most remarkably in November 2006. Then the president of Panama also visited the CATHALAC facility in Panama, when the entire region faced a heavy rainfall event. It is recorded that during this heavy rainfall event, more than 40 inches of rain fell in a short span of time. At that time, Servir Viz was used as a briefing gadget to see and measure possible flooding in the region.

Awards and Presentations of Servir Viz

Servir Viz was nominated and shortlisted as a winner in the 5th International Digital Earth Grand Challenge 3D Visualization Contest. Servir Viz was selected by a team of international judges from a worldwide pool of entries. The panel of international judges also underscored the position of IAGT as a creative and top provider of geospatially enabled visualization technology solutions. IAGT was awarded for this achievement during the awards ceremony of the 5th International Symposium on Digital Earth. The award ceremony was organized in June 2007 at the University of California at Berkeley.

In 2007, Servir Viz was also demonstrated at the group on earth observations ministerial summit in Cape town, South Africa. In the same year, it was also presented at the United Nations Framework Convention on weather change in Bali, Indonesia. GEO is known as a voluntary partnership of international organizations and government that know the vitality of collaborative Earth observations in order to promote information based ecological decision-making. Since that time, Servir Viz is seen as a forthcoming platform for data analysis.
