Now casting From Servir
The SERVIR project is working currently in collaboration with the Atmospheric science Department to implement and extend a product of short-term (which may be any thing 0 to 6 hour) weather prediction products over many countries. These products, known as 'convective initiation' and it will predict the onset of thunderstorm rainfall and lightning within a 1 hour
The "convective initiation" products will be driven by a program called the Satellite Convection Analysis and Tracking (which is also called SATCAST) System that monitors infrared fields for developing, moving, and evolving cumulus clouds. The SATCAST products are updated in every 30-minute, and will be posted to the SERVIR website
Other information for evaluating the threats of thunderstorms and lighting will be integrated into the SATCAST program, and it will come from weather prediction models and satellite
It will be used to estimate the flooding potential of thunderstorms as well as land-surface energy and water fluxes on regional scales. Other stand-alone satellites are now casting products that will able to give those estimate that are daily incoming solar insulation (used to estimate evaporation), and that may be used to monitor volcanic ash clouds
This Current and previous forecasts can be viewed, animated, and downloaded from the Real-time Image Viewer. Real-Time forecasts Viewer forecasts can be used with other regional weather products and datasets using the 3D SERVIR-VIZ Earth viewer application
Short-Term Forecasts
The SERVIR project which is running in collaboration with the Nasa Short Term Prediction Research and Transition Center which uses weather research and forecast model to produce short-term regional weather forecasts. Prediction Research and Transition Center and Weather forecast model which is also called as SPORT or WRF model can generates 24 hour-forecasts twice a day. It can give Temperature, precipitation, wind, and other variables are forecast in 10km and 30km grids in an area covering many regions. These predictions are posted on its websites daily at 12.am and 12PM CST time zone
Current and previous forecasts can be viewed, animated, and downloaded from the Real-time Image Viewer. WRF forecasts can be used with other regional weather products and datasets using the free 3D SERVIR-VIZ application. You can click on the servir‘s Website and type “Weather” a key word and view all weather related data and images you can also see specific details through Weather Real Time Forecast model
There are some products that are used for short-term weather forecasting. These products are given in following paragraphs
To get these short term products you can still get from clicking image viewer icon and see these animated products, also when you click Servir-viz icon you can download 3Dimensional earth viewer, you can also animate, compare with other data products. There are some other products which are specially developed for specific countries you can get these products by clicking data portal icon on servir‘s website and search these products
