Servir’s Disaster management
Volcanoes: servir-viz helps to monitor volcanoes and their status. There are many other volcanoes related products are available through which you can take advance warning related to volcanoes and their status. These products of servir has been developed by SERVIR research affiliate SSAI, and a "Volcano Cam" plug in for SERVIR-VIZ that allows users to view live-web cams of select many volcanoes of the countries
Earthquakes: Many countries are located in a seismically active region. Tectonic pressures from the conjunction of five plates result in numerous earthquakes and active volcanoes. All these plates are creating volcanoes and triggering earthquakes. Earthquakes of magnitude 5 and above since 1900 are shown by the red and green circles on the images at right corner and Volcanoes which are active and dangerous are shown in yellow triangles
Food Security: Many Countries have developed Food Security Early Warning System Network (MFEWS) which strengthens the ability of foreign countries and regional organizations to manage risk of food insecurity through the availability of timely and analytical early warning and vulnerability information
Landslides: The combination of heavy rain, steep slopes, and, in some cases, deforestation, makes landslides a serious risk in many countries. Many countries are now mapping vulnerable landslides areas that result in many catastrophic accidents. Landslides occurring in populated areas can destroy buildings, take lives, and permanently alter the landscape
In response to the need to better plan for landslide events, SERVIR research partner SSAI has developed a prototype regional landslide susceptibility map. In which Landslide Susceptibility is identified using slope and elevation known to correspond with landslide events
The preliminary product of Servir developed to test the usefulness of this methodology for identifying regional susceptibility to landslides. You can see some of links on Servir’s website and the metadata which is also available on the SERVIR‘s website
Weather Forecasting: Servir is now taking help from many satellites which gives real time satellite images These satellites can be GOES-12 satellite which is a geostationary-based remote sensing platform located at 75 degrees west longitude at the equator and is approximately 22,000 miles above the earth. GOES-12 can observe cloud systems in visible and infrared light as well as determining the vertical temperature structure of the atmosphere
Meteorologists and analysts use GOES-12 to monitor cloud motions and thunderstorms to help forecast day-to-day weather conditions and to warn the public of severe storms. GOES-12 data and images are updated in every 30 minutes under normal operations. These satellite images and data also useful to track and monitor in crops cultivation which is totally depend up weather conditions and their future estimation
Real-time and historical GOES images can be viewed, animated, and downloaded from the Real-time Image Viewer of Servir-Viz. GOES imagery can be used with other regional weather predictions and products and data using the free SERVIR-VIZ applications
SERVIR is a regional visualization and monitoring system for many countries that uses and integrates satellite and other geospatial data and images for improved scientific knowledge and get help for decision making for managers, researchers, students, and the general public.
