Servir viz capabilities
Whilst the geo-spatial data is hosted remotely at several different places or locations, the aim of comprising a single access point to share, visualize and distribute these data creates a great challenge. This challenge turns out to be even bigger when the information is spread across numerous countries that converse in various languages with a restricted infrastructure. Moreover, they require to be accessed through by means of several end users that range from the government officials to general public. The solution to this great challenge is nothing but servir.
Servir is the Regional Monitoring and Visualization System for Mesoamerica. Mesoamerica is an area expanding commencing southern Mexico to Panama that includes Nicaragua, Belize, Honduras, Costa Rica, Guatemala and El Salvador. In Spanish the meaning of Servir is to serve. As a fraction of this Servir endeavor, IAGT (the Institute for the Application of Geospatial Technology) created SERVIR Viz program. This is a free product and easy to use data access. Moreover, it focuses on visualization framework for distributing Geospatial information system data, region-particular thematic maps, remote sensing images and scientific information products.
Now let us look at the background behind the Servir Project. The Servir project attempts to extend the full-fledge utilization of planet Earth predictive modeling abilities as well as science observations for organizing all the significant sources of Mesoamerica. Furthermore this project focuses on the distribution of this functional information for the decision makers. Servir extensively make use of satellite imageries as well as other data resources for monitoring of natural disasters, mitigation support and environmental management.
This Servir project is greatly supported by CATHALAC (the Water Center for the Humid Tropics of Latin America and the Caribbean), NASA, USAID (the United States Agency for International Development), IAGT, the World Bank, the University of Alabama at Huntsville, the Environmental Ministries of the Mesoamerican Countries as well as several other partners.
The primary role of IAGT this servir project is to render the improved 3D visualization and mapping abilities. This enhanced capacity helps all the decision makers in finer addressing as well as better understanding of the dynamic ecological and environmental issues in Mesoamerica. IAGT has made great efforts with, and created several 3-Dimensional apparition applications as well as tools to provide an extensive variety of end-users and purposes. Depending on these experiences, IAGT was capable in the fast track expansion of Servir Viz, with great support of the Servir project as well as all its allied partners.
Servir Viz is a modified version of NASA's web-enabled, free and open-source 3-Dimensional Earth exploration tool which is designated as world wind. Servir Viz permits all its users to utilize custom tools as well as access, view and share remotely-hosted maps, data layers, near real-time satellite imageries as well as other Servir products within 3-dimensional and interactive globe environment.
SERVIR Viz boosts the entire infrastructure for Servir project by rendering full-fledge access to Internet served Geospatial Information System data products and Global Earth Observation System of Systems data products. Currently, more than 55 countries all across the world make use of fabulous SERVIR Viz for several different purposes.
