The condition for the earth observation systems dedicated or the weather forecasting can be called as the beset observing systems in the United States. The National Research Council reported that this system has evolved over the last 40 years. It has been transferred from the hands of government to the public sector. The public sector is a combination of the Federal State, regional State governments or the Local governing bodies, private organizations and companies, and academia.
Partnerships have been found at al levels and in this way the purpose of monitoring the weather and the changes occurring in it, has been addressed. Different communities and organizations are participating in this job. If we consider at the federal the level the person known as the Federal Coordinator for Metrological Services and Supporting Research deals with monitoring the use of resources. Note that this coordinator is also popularly called the Office of the Federal Coordinator for Meteorology OFMC.
It monitors the resources by supervising the organized coordination of the operational weather requirements as well as services. Among the other Federal agencies, it also deals with supporting research.
At this moment, there are around fifteen federal agencies, who are dealing with the metrological activities. They also participate in the cooperation infrastructure and the OFCMS coordination. A federal plan for metrological services and supporting research is prepared every year. The plan for a year is ready the previous year itself. The job of preparing this plan lies with the OFCM.
Then this plan has to be passed by the congress. Thus in a way this plan is a type of document, which articulates the supporting research and the metrological services provided by the different federal agencies.
Current conditions in Mesoamerican region
The satellite, which deals with this, is the GOES-12. It is a geostationary satellite and is involved in remote sensing weather data. It is located at about 75 degrees west longitude. Its location is over the equator and its distance from earth is about 22,000 miles.
It is capable of observing the cloud patterns using both the visible as well as the infrared light. It is also able to determine temperature structure in the atmosphere.
Metrologists analysts use the GOES-12 for monitoring the motions of clouds. Thus, they can also detect the development of thunderstorms. The data collected by them is useful for predicting day-to-day forecast o of weather conditions in the Mesoamerican region. Thus, the public, which is prone to be affected by this storm, can be warned about it. Therefore, they can be prepared for it and in this way, the damage could be reduced.
The frequency of updating GOES data is very high. It is updated every 30 minutes. Thus we can know about the changes taking place every half and hour.
Moreover, you can also view the historical GOES data. The data is available in the animated form as well. Moreover, you can also download the real-time image viewer. You can overlay the GOEs imagery with the other regional datasets or weather products. The SERVIR VIZ application is very useful for this.
